☁ La Neige: pièce descriptive

For French class we had to write a descriptive piece about the snow. For those of you learning this beautiful language, see if you can translate it roughly before checking the English. Remember, I’m just a student learning French, so parts of this will not be entirely accurate. Enjoy!

La neige est belle. La neige est molle, blanche, froide au toucher. Il est doux, léger, brillant dans la lumière du soleil couchant.
Si vous vous tenez au milieu d’une tempête de neige, le monde semble s’être arrêté, en un moment brillant que le blanc tombe autour de vous. Mais je ne sais pas ce sentiment personnellement.

Car je n’ai jamais vu la vraie neige.
Je connais que le sentiment de celui-ci. parce que je l’ai touché doucement dans mes mains quand j’étais un enfant, jouant dans un ‘centre de neige’ dans la ville avec ma famille. Les temps étaient heureux.

Je pense que le moment où le premier de la neige tombe est magique, presque précieux. Je voudrais bien voir tomber du ciel, de petites boules de blanc à la dérive vers le bas pour atterrir en douceur sur la terre calme. Il serait recouvrir le sol dans un manteau blanc, froid au toucher.

La première neige serait un spectacle plus beau que n’importe quoi d’autre. Il serait captivant, magique, enchanteur, presque envoûtante. La neige est parfois rude et froid, presque impitoyable.

Il peut être belle tout autant comme une menace. Mais quand je vois la première neige, je sais que ça va être beau.

In English:

The snow is beautiful. The snow is soft, white, cold to the touch. It is soft, lightweight, shining in the light of the sun. If you stand in the middle of a snowstorm, the world seems to have stopped, in a brilliant moment the bright white falls around you. But I do not know this feeling personally.

Because I’ve never seen real snow. I know the feeling of it because I touched it gently in my hands when I was a child playing in the snow centre in town with my family. Times were happy.

I think the moment where the first snow falls is magical, almost precious. I’d like to see it falling from the sky, small balls of white drifting down to land softly on the calm earth. It would cover the ground in a white coat, cool to the touch.

The first snow is a sight more beautiful than anything else. It would be exciting, magical, enchanting, almost mesmerizing. The snow is sometimes harsh and cold, almost ruthless.

It can be beautiful just as much as threatening. But when I see the first snow, I know it will be beautiful.

Astérix et Obélix: Au service de Sa Majesté

Yesterday our French class took a day off school and went to the city to see a French movie, which was Astérix et Obélix: Au service de Sa Majesté.

Quick Review:
The Astérix & Obélix movies have never been particularly good, but they have always been funny, and this one does not disappoint. In this film, Britannia is being invaded by Julius Caesar, and the British need some of Astérix & Obélix’s famous magic potion to stop Caesar and his Roman army. Of course, all sorts of problems arise when Astérix and Obélix attempt to help them, but it all turns out well in the end. These movies are not aimed at older audiences, so don’t watch it expecting a mature, well-made movie. However, do watch it expecting some laughs, which you’ll definitely get. It’s ideal for children and their families, and a time well spent.

En français:

Les films Astérix & Obélix n’ont jamais été très bons, mais ils ont toujours été drôle, et ce film ne déçoit pas. Dans ce film, Britannia est envahi par Jules César, et les Britanniques ont besoin d’d’Astérix & Obélix potion magique célèbre pour arrêter César et son armée romaine. Bien sûr, toutes sortes de problèmes se posent lorsque la tentative Astérix et Obélix pour les aider, mais il s’avère tout à bien à la fin. Ces films ne sont pas destinés à un public plus âgé, il ne faut pas regarder m’y attendais un âge mûr, bien fait film. Cependant, ne m’y attendais pas regarder quelques rires, que vous aurez certainement obtenir. Il est idéal pour les enfants et leurs familles, et un temps bien dépensé.

Ma famille d’acceuil

For French class we had to write about our ‘famille d’acceuil’, or ‘host family’ in Paris. Of course, I’m not actually living in France nor have I ever visited Paris, but some day I hope I will.

En Francais:

Ma Famille d’Acceuil est très sympa, et très heureux. Nous habitons dans un appartement à Paris, dans le 15ème arrondissement*, à Vaugirard. C’est un petit apartement, mais c’est très beau. Il y a beacoup de fleurs. Mes parents d’accueil avaient une enfant, un enfant, elle s’appellait Amélie (comme le film), et elle a seize ans. Elle a deux chats, et elles sont très adorables!

Nous avons visité magnifiques la Louvre, l’Arc De Triomphe et le Tour Eiffel.

Le matin, nous sommes allés à un petit café le long de la Seine. Nous avons mangé beacoup du pain, de la confiture, le fruits, et la fromage. Miam! La semaine derniére, je suis allée au restaurant, et c’etait beau à l’interieur. La nourriture était délicieux. Nous avons mangée de la bouillabaisse et la ratatouille, et de macarons pour le desert.

Paris est très belle. J’adore les lumières de la ville à nuit. J’adore ma famille d’accueil, ils sont très sympa et heureux. J’adore la nourriture, la musique, et les personnes. J’adore Paris. Je vais visiter de nouveau un jour.

In English:

My host family is very nice, and very happy. We live in an apartment in Paris, in the Vaugirard arrondisement*. It is a little apartment, but it is very beautiful. There are lots of flowers. My host parents have one child, her name is Amélie (like the movie), and she is sixteen years old. She has two cats, and they are very adorable!

We visited the Louvre, the Arc De Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, and they were magnificent.

In the morning, we go to a little café along the River Seine. We eat lots of bread, jam, fruit and cheese. Yum! Last week, we went to a restaurant, and it was beautiful on the inside. The food was delicious. We had bouillabaisse, ratatouille, macarons for dessert.

Paris is very beautiful. I love the lights of the city at night. I love my host family, they are very nice and happy. I love the food, the music, and the people. I love Paris. I will visit again one day.

*Paris is split up into twenty administrative districts called arrondisements. When people in Paris refer to the arrondissements, they usually talk about them by number, and also say the subway station that is closest. For example: “the 15ème arrondissement à Vaugirard”. The one I’m talking about is the largest and most populated.
